Occurring typically in massive form, sodalite is found as vein fillings in plutonic igneous rocks such as nepheline syenites. It is associated with other minerals typical of undersaturated environments, namely leucite, cancrinite and natrolite. Other associated minerals include nepheline, titanian andradite, aegirine, microcline, sanidine, albite, calcite, fluorite, ankerite and baryte.

Sodalite is a rich royal blue mineral widely enjoyed as an ornamental gemstone. Although massive sodalite samples are opaque, crystals are usually transparent to translucent. Sodalite is a member of the sodalite group with hauyne, nosean, lazurite and tugtupite. Discovered in 1811 in the Ilimaussaq intrusive complex in Greenland, sodalite did not become important as an ornamental stone until 1891 when vast deposits of fine material were discovered in Ontario, Canada.

Sodalite is a stone of logic, rationality, and efficiency. It is helpful for work in groups and stimulates thought. Sodalite is a stone that is good for healing breaches in communication. It is a stone of truth, and brings this to all communications. It is called a Poet's Stone. It can help end arguments or other disagreements. It is particularly useful for honesty of emotions and love. It increases intelligence, knowledge and learning, and can unite the logical with the spiritual.

A light, relatively hard yet fragile mineral, sodalite is named after its sodium content; in mineralogy it may be classed as a feldspathoid. Well known for its blue color, sodalite may also be grey, yellow, green, or pink and is often mottled with white veins or patches. The more uniformly blue material is used in jewellery, where it is fashioned into cabochons and beads. Lesser material is more often seen as facing or inlay in various applications.

Goldstone is reddish-brown, containing tiny crystals of metallic copper that require special conditions to form properly. The initial batch is melted together from silica, copper oxide, and other metal oxides to chemically reduce the copper ions to elemental copper. The vat is then sealed off from the air and maintained within a narrow temperature range, keeping the glass hot enough to remain liquid while allowing metallic crystals to precipitate from solution without melting or oxidizing.  Goldstone is said to be the stone of ambition. It builds energy, courage and a positive attitude. Increases drive and confidence. A gently uplifting stone, Goldstone promotes vitality.

  • PRODUCT INFO

Sodalite is a gemstone of peace and is perfect for use as a focusing device when meditating. Simply holding a small stone in each hand while meditating can help your mind to let go of the thoughts of the various problems that present during our day and allow the peaceful energies to flow over you like a silken river. The base color of sodalite is a rather dark blue to a violet blue color, however it usually appears to have almost all shades of blue in it because of the veins of white that flow through the blue. It is quiet easy to confuse sodalite with Lapis lazuli because sodalite can also have flecks of pyrite. But Lapis rarely has the actual veins of white that we see in sodalite. Sodalite encourages being true to self and standing up for your beliefs. A stone of self-expression and confidence, Sodalite can aid in issues of self-worth, self-acceptance, and self-esteem. Sodalite promotes intuition and a trust in one's own judgment, which can be a great ally in daily life. Sodalite helps to achieve emotional balance, releasing old conditioning and programming of the past which no longer serves. Beautiful addition to a rock/crystal collection, or a stunning point of interest ornament. The items are new but contains small surface anomalies and inclusions, with fissures and inclusions running through the crystals in numerous directions (due to it being a naturally occurring crystal) - these add interesting facets to the specimen and means that no two products will ever be the same, in either looks, the way they react to light sources, or colour. Sizes are approximate. Images are of actual product.
